About the Artist

I am a painter and digital artist. Being a digital artist simply means that I use an iPad and a large Wacom Cintiq drawing tablet instead of brushes and canvas. The tools may have changed, but the art has not.

I trained in Fine Art during the 1970s, studying at the West of England College of Art, South Devon College of Art, and Falmouth School of Art and Design. This was long before computers became part of an artist's studio, when every drawing and painting was created entirely by hand.

Whether an artist works on paper, canvas, or a digital tablet, the principles remain exactly the same. Technology cannot make someone a better artist, any more than a different paintbrush can. It is simply another creative tool.

That said, digital painting does have remarkable advantages. It often makes me wonder what artists such as Degas, Van Gogh, or Picasso might have created if they had access to today's technology.

My paintings are inspired by music. Rather than simply depicting a place or an object, I try to capture the emotions that the music stirred within me. My hope is that, when you look at each painting, you feel something of the same atmosphere and emotion that inspired its creation.

To me, painting is about communicating a feeling rather than merely describing a scene. In many ways, it is like music itself. Music creates harmony, movement and emotion, and I hope my paintings do the same.
